Research & Publications

My research addresses questions at the intersection of Biodesign and Material Innovation via three domains: (1) Material Design & Culture, (2) Laboratory Practice, and (3) Material Characterization and Scalability.  Specifically, my research seeks to develop emerging materials for industries such as fashion and textiles with cross-disciplinary collaborations and local/regional communities.

To do so, I leverage mixed-methods and data sources including (a) laboratory practice (design: biodesign; biology: fermentation, microbial growth; chemistry: separation and analytical chemistry; material science: characterization and testing), (b) sociocultural research (semi-structured interviews, surveys, autoethnography, participatory design workshops) and (c) research landscape methods (systematic/bibliometric reviews, meta-ethnography).
