Teaching & Speaking

Teaching Experience

Between 2018 – 2020, I was an English as a Second Language (ESL) Teacher for 2 years in China and Thailand. In 2018–2019, I taught primary school students at Qilin Primary School in Shenzhen, China grades three to five. Class sizes were 40-50 students once a week to fifteen different classes. In the summer of 2019, I taught English to university students at Taiyuan University of Technology, in an intensive course that was from 8am to 5pm. In 2019–2020, I taught Korean adults seeking to practice their conversational English with Pagoda SCS through online software. These teaching experiences ranging from keeping a room full of energetic third graders engaged with English basics in Shenzhen to motivating university students during long, intensive summer days, have helped me develop strong classroom management and creative communication skills. I am excited to bring that same enthusiasm, adaptability, and encouragement into the college classroom. Directly related to fashion and textiles, I have given more than 30+ guest lectures or invited presentations to more than 1650+ people around the world.

Teaching Strategies

My teaching strategies can be categorized into four priorities:
  • Timely Feedback
  • Human First, Teacher Second
  • Belonging & Incentives, and
  • Professional Development.
These strategies are shown in my conceptual teaching model in Figure C on the right side.
